SPRINGFIELD – Illinois would become one of the first states to make so-called crisis pregnancy centers subject to the same consumer fraud standards as car dealerships, retailers and service-based businesses under a bill that will soon head to Gov. JB Pritzker.

The Florida Senate has approved a bill to ban abortions after six weeks. Senate Republicans passed the bill Monday. The vote prompted demonstrations at the state’s capital that led to the arrest of the leader of the Florida Democratic Party and a state senator. It must still be approved by the House before it reaches the desk of Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, who says he supports the measure. A six-week ban would give DeSantis an important political win on an issue important with GOP primary voters ahead of his expected White House run.

Kansas voted to protect abortion in a ballot initiative last year. The legislature has other plans.

South Carolina is one of two states in the country that criminalizes self-managed abortions, experts told USA TODAY. The other state is Nevada.

Dozens of cities and two counties, mostly in rural areas, have adopted the bans.
